Message to the Youth of my Country/ Mark Laitflang Stone

I was a young, shy boy of 19 when I first started thinking of Avenues. I had a tiny dream for myself. I did not want much. I wanted enough to buy myself my own laptop and a decent suit with well-polished black shoes. But more than anything else, I wanted to give myself a chance to be more than what I was told I would be. I will never forget the hand, the moment and his voice at 12, striking me across the face at school. "Mark, you will always be trouble for everyone under the Sun." Some moments define the path we will take, and for me, this was it. For many years, fear, doubt and unworthiness were the cornerstones of my story. I could have never imagined that I would eventually lead an organisation that would touch the lives of over 100,000 tribal boys and girls in our part of the World. I have dedicated my life to building a more resilient generation of young people who will emerge in years to come with confidence, values and inspiring aspiration. Today, I hold the promises of an entire team built with hard work and heart who believe in the same vision- who will take this dream and turn it into an undeniable reality. 2022 is a special year for us at Avenues. #Meghalaya turns 50 the year we turn 20. That's two decades of milestones, heartaches and memories, woven together with love on the floors of the campuses we embrace. Over the course of my speaking career, I've had moments on stage when the collective energy of an audience feels like a revolution. One of these moments was the #NorthEast Youth Festival hosted at #Agartala in 2018. Over 4,000 youth from across the region joined me for an address I was invited to make. There was a moment when I knew I had to switch off the microphone and just be me. What followed was heart stopping. I recorded this message to the world right after the event and today, on our country's 73rd Republic Day, I'm choosing to release it to the world. I hope it finds you, like Avenues found me. What do we value most in your relationships? This Valentine's Day, our founder, Mark Laitflang Stone has a message to the world. Spread the love, share the message, and discover love in all its hues. -- #MarksMessageToTheWorld There are very human stories in our collective story of love. This Valentine's Day, my wish for you is that you remember the person in each of your relationships. That you fall in love with who they are, not who you want them to be. Fall in love with their weaknesses, and respect their beginnings. Fall in love with their dreams, and let go of your version of their truth. Let today be the day you begin to choose to lose the labels and ditch the privileges, and focus on the person instead. Look at someone you “say” you love today, and choose to love them for who they are. The mother you haven’t held in a while. The father who worked all his life to see you shine. The wife who’s stood by you in your darkest times. The husband who watches you while you sleep, and smiles with gratitude thinking “she’s out of my league”. The brother you grew up loving and fighting. The sister you can call in the dead of night just, because. The girlfriend who writes your destiny with her eyes and chooses to believe in you. That boyfriend who would run to you at the slightest chance, just to hold your hand and take a walk with his Dream. The grandmother who’d show you how wisdom is love and the Grandfather whose eyes told you a hundred stories of a life you will never live. The teacher who’s patience taught you patience. The boss who loved your path more than his own and made it known. The first person who ever said “I believe in you”. Take a moment, hold that hand, embrace that person, look into those eyes while you can. Love has a million gorgeous shades but the only shade that paints a picture, is the shade of love you choose to see. #loveisachoice

How Dare You? | Mark Laitflang Stone

We’ve all been there. Gossip is an act of hate that has the power to ruin someone’s life, permanently damaging the delicate balances of well-being and resilience we struggle with. If you know someone who’s been at the receiving end of gossip you’ll know how it breaks hearts. If you’ve ever engaged in the act of spreading a rumour, I can’t help feeling sorry for you and your friends. On campuses and in organisations, the culture of division by gossip must end and it begins with you. Choosing to call out the gossip and the tale bearer by looking at them in the eye, saying “How Dare You?!” is a great way to start. As we bring the curtains down on a meaningful year in our lives and start the next decade with clarity and conviction, I’m going to make it my personal mission to fight gossip in all its forms by refusing to even engage. Ever heard the phrase - "Let me be your anchor?" It means choosing to stand by someone through the hard times, to support and embrace your someone with comfort and trust. It means being strong for someone you love. . Moving on from immense loss takes its time and fills our journeys with waves of grief and memories. Through it all, if we choose to recognise that sometimes an anchor needs to loosen the earth below us, so we can let go to grow, a beautiful thing begins to happen. We find a tiny glimmer of hope in the sea of our emotions. And then it happens. We make the switch from losing an anchor, to becoming one for someone else. . Protect our Entrepreneurs: Mark Laitflang Stone

In Memory of every Entrepreneur we've Lost. The path of the entrepreneur is a lonely one. Stories of success, fame, and growth do their rounds but the real stories of fears, doubts and failure are always kept to ourselves. As an Entrepreneur leading a team you're expected to be brave and strong and to face your struggles like a man. For a woman there is no time for weakness or tears. Vulnerability is looked at as a weakness and you're judged for letting people and their expectations down. But the most painful judgements come from the conversations we have with ourselves when we've let ourselves down. As an Entrepreneur, you feel responsible for your team, for their families and your family and letting them down is not an option because you think that makes you a failure. To every Entrepreneur out there, remember that there is no hurdle you cannot overcome if you choose to be honest with yourself, and honest with the people who love you. Letting go is never a failure, if you've chosen your well being and your personal happiness ahead of a business that is brining you to your knees. For Social Entrepreneurs, the journey is always "just beginning". You need to take it easy with yourself and let go and choose to not suffer alone!
